Vinicius, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games mascot, is a mixture of all the Brazilian animals, said to be born out of the explosion of joy that happened when they announced that Rio would host the Olympic Games, on 2 October 2009.
Being a mixture of Brazilian animals, Vinicius can do all the best things Brazilian animals can do: Run faster, jump higher and be stronger. Vinicius can also imitate the voice of any animal with his super-communicative skills!
Playing all Olympic sports, Vinicius likes to hang out around the city of Rio de Janerio, making new friends, and meeting people from all over the world.
From Vinicius’ home, a tree-house in the Tijuca Forest, you can see the entire whole city of Rio.
Vinicius was created to spread joy throughout the world and celebrate the friendship that flourishes between people from all over the world at this super sports event.
Best friend of Vincius is Tom, the Paralympic Games mascot, a magical creature and a fusion of all the plants in the Brazilian forests.
Tom can pull himself out of any jam, pulling craziest objects out of his head of leaves. Tom knows all the secrets of nature and understands that with creativity, intelligence and determination, we can achieve whatever we want.
Like Vinicius, Tom plays all Paralympic sports and likes to make the most of living in Rio by playing a lot and adventuring outdoors, but also likes reading and Brazilian music.
Tom likes to be mixed in with nature, taking naps on a water lily in the middle of a refreshing lake.
Tom’s mission is to inspire everybody to use creativity and determination to always reach further and have fun.
